My medium of choice is oil on canvas. Each piece is accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity that shares the story and inspiration behind the work, offering a deeper glimpse into the creative process.
In Purple Mountain Majesty, I sought to portray not only the physical grandeur of Pikes Peak, but also the emotional stillness that can inspire reflection, gratitude, and creativity. My painting is inspired by Katharine Lee Bates’ experience at Pikes Peak while composing the lyrics to America the Beautiful. The painting portrays Ms. Bates overlooking the Front Range at sunset, surrounded by alpine wilderness as the first inspiration for the iconic hymn takes shape. I tried to evoke atmospheric light, restrained color harmony, and contemplative composition shared by a national and personal identity ...a symbol of memory and sacrifice!
