My painting is inspired by Katharine Lee Bates’ experience at Pikes Peak while composing the lyrics to America the Beautiful. The painting portrays Ms. Bates overlooking the Front Range at sunset, surrounded by alpine wilderness as the first inspiration for the iconic hymn takes shape.
